UNIVERSAL SISTAS

S.I.S.T.A.S - Is the brain child of education advocate Carmen M ColonOpen in a new window, which provides the type of support minorities and women going into business in the non-profit arena craves for.

This group of high-powered women have reputations for putting the marvel in MARVELOUS!

We belong or in many cases run our own non-profit organizations and through our individual struggles and determination to see our good works survive we found each other.

Sisters in struggle - we forged what others might consider an unlikely alliance in this tight competitive search for funding and support and instead help each other vie for grants.

EVEN if we find ourselves competing.

We assist and volunteer at each other's events and fund raisers and insure that all of our causes get air time with the media. We use our professional expertise and experiences to bring ourselves to the world and the world to us.

SO, NOW IT'S YOUR TURN

MEDIA ADVISORY - HOTEP IN THE BIG APPLE

By Carmen M Colon
HOTEP

CONTACT: CARMEN M COLON, PR Representative at 1-718-771-3836

New York, NY – October 24 through 26, 2008 - Hustle University Founder and President Hotep enters the fight! Agrees to donate proceeds from all product sales to campaign for Barack Obama!

Hotep says "I have been deeply touched and inspired by (Obama) and can no longer sit on the sidelines. I'm on the team. It's the fourth quarter, 4th and goal…and I'm gonna see to it that we score a touchdown!"

Hotep is a music and film industry professional who began and continues with a career in teaching young children. His inspirational books, DVDs and CDs, “Hustle While You Work”, “The Hustler’s Guide to the Entertainment Industry”, and “the Hustler’s Gospel” led him to create a curriculum for urban kids who felt displaced by the public school system. It is through his being a fifth grade teacher and his understanding of the lure of the entertainment industry that Hotep set out to matriculate as many young people as possible. His programs and curriculum can be found at http://hustleuniversity.org.

He will be here in NYC, this trip will be the Brooklyn, working alongside education advocates and hoping to forge bridges from his hometown in Atlanta all the way to the Big Apple. While he has been about “hustling” to succeed, he is dedicating this trip to Senator Obama and is looking to raise funds for his campaign. He is inviting the elected officials, the press and the Literary Community to come out in support of engaging our youth as well as putting as much of a spotlight as possible on the necessity of being involved in local politics.

He will appear for a Book Launching Party at the famous NY Perks on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 7PM, at Night of the Cookers on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 1PM, at Brownstone Books in the heart of Bedford Stuyvesant at 5PM that Saturday. On Sunday, prior to his return to Atlanta he will make a final Book Signing and Photo Shoot stop at the Cacin Hall in Brooklyn. All are welcome to hear the motivational speaker and to see true activism in action.

My Latest Article - How To begin Your Online Career

By Carmen M Colon
My apologies sistas and brothas!

"Get a book written and you'd think I'd fallen off the edge of a cliff!"
I know it's been a while since we connected between us but I did bring forth Universal SISTAS to let it sit in Cyberspace and gather ghosts. (hee hee, that's a geek joke)

Updates: Hmmm, let's see. I got the book out last year and immediately became a part of the African American Authors community. LOVE IT but it is so vast! I did the online interviews, was reviewed left and right (grateful for all of the comments, I took them all to heart!) and my hand is cramped from the book signing that I encourage people to snap a picture on their cellphone - it'll last longer!

Then the economy showed up in Bed Stuy and basically as been kicking my ass up until now! Day job got flaky, have been looking for a new one for six months, people and jobs getting twitchy and I'm counting pennies and foregoing lattes for instant at home. Now I know it's not hit everyone so I'm not looking for any pity parties but I acknowledge and respect my fellow communities and neighbors that understand why I say "hell yeah" to a block of good ole American cheese!

Anyway, all of that and three boys I have to raise kept me from this part of the work. Now, Ive put my networking in place, created and updated my four websites, was commissioned on several others, was in the street "Hustling for Obama"Open in a new window (http://apps.new.facebook.com/causes/122064?recruiter_id=13670413Open in a new window)- AND I STILL AM! - and am now putting it all here to some use.

So check out the latest article - How to Begin Your Online Career at http://www.ehow.com/how_4528772_begin-career-online.htmlOpen in a new window. Comments are always appreciated. Let me know what you're up to and how we can hook each other up!
